Abstract:
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle is one of the most commonly consumed and disposed plastic products in our daily life in Japan. From the viewpoint of waste management, it is important to reduce the amount of PET bottles produced as well as promoting recycling. The beverage refill service is a potential solution that contributes to realize a sustainable consumption for beverage products. In this system, consumers can refill beverages into their own bottles using drink dispensers installed in stores. According to the result of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the beverage refill service is fount to be more environmental-firiendly than other recycling methods. Also, Conjoint Anaysis (CA) is conducted to investigate optimal conditions in which the beverage refill service can be widely diffused into society. CA stated that variety of beverage kinds and washing service for refillable bottles, as well as beverage price, are important factors to determine selective probabilities for the beverage refill service. In addition, people's selective probabilities for the beverage refill service with regard to their accessibilities to the stores and its CO2 reduction potential are estimated.
