Abstract:
To arrest global warming, it is also expected that the effect of carbon storage and sequestration of urban green spaces will be an important factor. On the other hand, there is very little basic data on the amount of carbon storage and sequestration per tree crown cover area, which is needed when the amount of carbon storage and sequestration of urban green spaces in large areas is calculated. Because of this situation, the purpose of this study was to estimate the amount of carbon storage and sequestration of urban green spaces per tree crown cover area in Hokkaido. The urban green spaces considered in this study were “roadside trees” and “tree crown covers in urban parks (basic parks for neighborhood)”. The results are follows: 1) Regarding the cumulative amount of carbon stored per tree crown cover area of 1 ha, the average for "roadside trees" was 26,700 kg-C/ha, and that for "tree crown covers in urban parks" was 22,800 kg-C/ha. 2) Regarding the annual amount of carbon sequestrated per tree crown cover area of 1 ha, the average for "roadside trees" was 840 kg-C/ha・yr, and that for "tree crown covers in urban parks" was 793 kg-C/ha・yr.
