Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to find possible directions for renovating systematically-planned town areas based on current utilization of open spaces, the satisfaction of residents with their living environments, and their needs for open space activities. The results of a questionnaire survey on living environments showed that residents were highly satisfied with systematically-laid open spaces, while they were less satisfied with poor interpersonal and social relationships, indicating the importance of regenerating the planned town areas by revitalizing the community through activities conducted in versatile open spaces. Specifically, this study suggests that the community can be revitalized through demanding farming activities, contact with nature around residents, and cultural and community exchanges such as local festivals.
