Abstract:
This research intends to verify the possibility of an electricity supply without nuclear power generation by analysing the electricity cost, power supplying capability as well as environmental impact. Also, this study intends to make a realistic and effective proposal on the future power supply in Japan. The results of the survey and calculation show that there is an enough available capacity of electricity supply without nuclear power because the capacity utilization ratio of thermal-power in Japan was always less than 50% for over a decade and the thermal-power supplied about 70% of the total electricity. The electricity prices can be notably reduced by coal-fired power because the cost is much cheaper than nuclear power. In addition, the increase of the world's CO2 emission would be only 0.8% even if all nuclear power was substituted by coal-fired power in Japan.
