Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to confirm a multidimensional structure of semihealth status among university students in Japan. Furthermore, the authors tried to examine the relationship between the status and other factors such as an objective condition and behavior and consciousness in daily living. The questionnaire was self-reported type and composed of 47 items regarding physical and mental conditions based on subjective symptoms, 9 items regarding behavior and consciousness in daily living, 6 items regarding physical fitness as an objective condition, and 2 items regarding demographic information (age and gender). As a measurement sample, 3,152 students were drawn from one university in Japan. The principal component analyses were applied to the 47-item, 9-ietm, and 6-item data and the first principal components were extracted and interpreted as synthetic traits, respectively. In the 47-item, the second, third, and fourth principal components were extracted and interpreted as well. Then the quantification method of the second type was applied in order to confirm a predictive level of discriminating the semihealth and good health conditions. As a result, it was suggested that the semihealth status in university students was structured four evaluated scalings and the status was closely associated with the factor regarding daily living.
