Abstract:
Most gardens in outpatient clinics are for passive viewing as part of the scenery. This study describes ways of promoting fuller utilization of hospital gardens. A questionnaire revealed that the patients visiting the garden had cultivation experience in their own gardens. Horticultural activities were considered an incentive for patients to go into the garden, and this study explored which conditions prompted patients to visit the garden. The most favorable condition was performing horticultural activities from 1 to 2 hours once a month. A program of horticultural activities is required from sowing to harvesting of vegetables and ornamental plants. These research findings can be used to guide the future planning, horticultural activities and design of a garden.
