Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to assess daily living of the mental disorders in a community. Therefore, we propose a method which permits us to arrive at a solution of sufficient accuracy by means of indices obtained from Morita's Community-Environmental Index (MCEI). The investigation included MCEI was conducted to the public health nurse managers. The principal component analyses (PCA) were applied to valid data of the current environmental condition (CEC) and the degree of importance on the environment (DIE). As a result, four principal components were extracted, respectively. The first principal components of CEC and DIE were interpreted as synthetic indices. There was the statistical significance in the difference between the first principal component scores and population scales in municipalities. The second, third, and fourth principal components were useful scales when daily living of the mental disorders was qualitatively analyzed. By the first principal components of CEC and DIE, partial-spaces, which were interpreted as the advancement, consciousness, stagnation, and activation, on the two-dimensional space were extracted for the assessment of environment in the community regarding daily living of the mental disorders. It was suggested that these were useful elements for the environmental assessment for the mental disorders.
