Abstract:
The importance of improved signs has been increasingly recognized in recent years to promote marine recreational activities at seaside spaces. This study aims at facilitating the use of the waterfront by making pictogrammes have the effect of inducing marine recreational activities. Firstly, a questionnaire survey 1 was conducted to extract the basic attraction factors from three factors of a pictogramme, i.e. the colour, shape of the frame and figure. The results show that red is predominantly used, followed by yellow and blue. In the case of the "shape of the frame", a triangle is most frequently used, followed by a circle and an inverted triangle. In regard to the figure, based on three distinctive categories of "static", "dynamic" and "intermediate", most signs are classified as "dynamic". In questionnaire survey 2, the combination of blue with a circle was found to be the most popular, followed by a yellow diamond and a white circle. In terms of colour, yellow, blue and white are the favorites while a circle, diamond and triangle are the favorite frame shapes. Based on the above results, the Study has extracted such basic attraction factors as "Yellow" and "Blue" for colour, "circle" and "triangle" for the frame shape and "dynamic" for the figure.
