Abstract:
Since the deregulation of the bus transportation in February 2002 in Japan, the issues of bus transportation on the regular routes become more important things and are examined all over the country. This study aims to consider the methods of characteristic analysis of bus transportation service. The characteristic analysis of the present bus routes network was performed using the actual bus routes data in Fukui prefecture. The factor analysis is performed using ten indices about the bus operation situation according to the routes and the explanation factor of the bus routes is extracted. The routes are classified by the cluster analysis using the factor score as the base, and the characteristic analysis of the routes is tried. From the analysis the following things are clarified. It is necessary to clarify the relation between the service level which should be secured at worst as public service and the income-and-outgo coefficient which should be secured in order to maintain the operation. In order to maintain steady bus operation, it is necessary to clarify the grade of improvement concerning the numbers of bus users at the time of rushes in the mornings and evenings. And it is necessary to optimize the combination of supply service type operation and demand service type operation in time dimension and space dimension. By combining the bus entrepreneur's operating actual result information and the local information, the characteristics of the bus routes can be more clearly grasped. By using factor analysis and cluster analysis, the bus routes were structured by several types and the future subjects can be clarified in every type.
