Abstract:
It is expected that the waste material with tree pruning can be utilized effectively in terms of reducing CO2 from the atmospheric air. In this paper, for products made from the pruning waste (chips, compost, charcoal, and pellets) were selected as the objects of investigation. The chips and the compost are major styles at present. The charcoal and the pellets are expected styles in future; the charcoal is used to improve the quality of soil and water, and the pellets are used as fuel for generation of electricity and heat. CO2 balances of the four products were estimated through their making and using processes, and then it was considered which products should be recommended. As the result, it was confirmed that the all four products have effects of reducing CO2. Percentages of the CO2 reduced by the utilization, to the CO2 emitted by incineration of the pruning waste, were 36.1% in the chips, 36.5% in the compost, 40.2% in the charcoal and 13.5% in the pellets. The charcoal was the most effective to reduce CO2, and this effect was expected to be semi-permanent. These results showed making and using the charcoal from the pruning waste should be recommended.
